The company is a manufacturer of special tools for the apparatus and boiler construction industry, based in Münnerstadt, Lower Franconia.
The company was founded in 1951 as Albert Otto KG by its namesake founder, Mr. Albert Otto, who came from Berlin.

At the end of the 1970s, it merged with the Remscheid-based company Kotthaus + Busch.

Since 1991, the company has been operating independently again under the name A.O. Rohrwerkzeug GmbH. To honor the founder, his initials (Albert Otto) have continued to be part of the company name. At the end of the 1990s, Dipl.-Ing. Harald Frank, who also owns the company Frank Rohr- und Walztechnik (FRW) in Lauta, Saxony, took over the company. This laid the foundation for comprehensive pipe processing and pipe fastening. Since then, manufacturing, sales, and service have been competently and promptly provided from a single source. The A.O. Rohrwerkzeug GmbH team has over 40 years of experience in special tool construction for apparatus and boiler manufacturing.

In April 2017, Dipl.-Ing. Harald Frank retired after many years of service. As part of this transition, all activities of Frank Rohr- und Walztechnik were transferred to A.O. Rohrwerkzeug GmbH. There were also changes in management. Since April 2017, the company has been led by Mr. Martin Frank and Mr. Ralf Straub. Since then, A.O. Rohrwerkzeug GmbH has taken on all services in full.
